A deltic at Bangor!

The day's excitement wasn't over, as the evening brought preserved Deltic D9009 Alycidon to Bangor on a charter from Shrewsbury. We arrived to see the 18:20 Bangor to Crewe service waiting to go and a band with male voice choir waiting to greet the special.

Alycidon arrives, runs around its train and is seen here waiting to propel it into Belmont tunnel. This illustrates the difficulties of time exposure photography at Bangor - from most positions where locomotives stop there's a bright light behind it and just above roof level. On this occasion it was impossible to get a photograph from the platform side as there were too many people examining the celebrity.

Meanwhile the extravagently dressed passengers have alighted, crossed to platform 1 and are being entertained by the band and choir.

D9009 was originally scheduled to depart before the 18:22 Holyhead to Crewe but the Deltic run-round took longer than normal so it was held back until the service train had gone. This is the best position for night photography at Bangor, but the driver can spoil it by stopping closer to the signal.

The end of a busy interlude sees 37 421 arriving with the 17:17 Crewe to Holyhead while D9009 sets off for Shrewsbury
