
37 421 obligingly halted for a red on the approach to Crewe, allowing a window
shot of a deltic nose peeping out. D172 Ixion had been stationed
in front of the deltic when we passed here earlier

Tower, now languishing at Basford Hall
37 421 was replaced by 37 426 at Crewe, losing six minutes which were soon recovered.

At Colwyn Bay, Railtrack's inherited and soon to be sold steam engine has
escaped its prison.

At the west end of the station the brick base is all that remains of the signalbox

At Bangor we head home while 37 426 continues to Holyhead.
This was probably our last 37 hauled visit to Birmingham. I've never seen so many photographers at stations along the route for a normal day's working as enthusiasts grab the chance to record and travel on these last few weeks. As our train terminated at Birmingham almost the entire front coach remained for the ride back.
