The 08:26 departure from Bangor had been a unit on the two previous days,
so we were rather apprehensive. We were very relieved when 37 401 Mary
Queen of Scots showed up and enjoyed a wonderful run along the coast with
flood waters all around and the grey sea sending huge waves crashing onto
the promenade at Colwyn Bay.
We alighted at Chester and photographed our train almost ready to depart.

Privately owned thunderbird 37 038 was relaxing in a bay platform

We waited for the 08:47 Holyhead to Birmingham to arrive before heading for
the shops. 37 421 was in charge today, unusually being routed into
platform 3. The Virgin service which normally follows half an hour later was
cancelled.
The lunchtime HST did run, but only to Crewe because of flooding on the West
Coast Main Line. It's seen here departing from platform 3.
