A day at Crewe

Friday 8th March 2002

Christine was off to London for the weekend so Rowan and I, having two days left on our all Wales flexi passes, accompanied her on 1A46 as far as Crewe. 47 848 Newton Abbott Festival of Transport 2000 is removed in favour of electric traction, the rest of the journey being under the wires. After waving her off, we observed the action at this busy interchange.

It's always good to see a 37 ticking over on shed. Later, 37 668 ran through the station.

The ludicrously named 90 037 Spirit of Dagenham was also on shed along with the withdrawn locomotives that have heen here for years, including former Coast regular 37 407.

A 37 on active freight duty is even nicer. Here's 37 704 arriving from the Manchester direction.

After being checked at the signals, it moves off.
