The early May Bank Holiday promised plenty of interest on the North Wales
Coast with two specials, the Llandudno Transport Festival and the Ffestiniog
Anything Goes weekend.
We rode 1A46 one stop to Llandudno Junction and just had time to photograph 47 827 before it departed. As promised, First North Western provided "Daisy", otherwise known as 101 685, forming a four car train with 101 680, in Regional Railways colours. Rowan watches from the end of the platform.

It's Daisy's turn to lead as the pair of 101s come off the Llandudno branch
having formed the 10:23 back to Blaenau Ffestiniog. It's a perfect spring
day with blossom, a cloudless sky and the sparkling blue water of the Conwy
estuary.

We'd passed a fully loaded ballast train at Penmaenmawr and were looking out
for it but nevertheless it almost caught us by surprise as it eased slowly
along platform 1. Those "sheds" are way too quiet! This train rarely
runs on a Saturday.

Just six minutes later, 47 727 Duke of Edinburgh's Award arrives
light engine from the east and stables in the yard. The driver tells us that
he'll be taking over the 'Green Express' special from Hull to Blaenau Ffestiniog.
727 takes up position and shortly afterwards the Green
Express special from Hull to Blaenau Ffestiniog comes into view.
