Double Vision at Bangor

Sunday 17th March 2002

The line between Bangor and the terminus at Holyhead was closed all day for engineering work so we ventured onto the island to see what was happening. The first train was hidden in Bodorgan No 1 tunnel so we continued to Rhosneigr where a handy, if rather wet, footpath allowed us to photograph 66 055 a short way east of the station.

Standing at the end of the platform with my lens on full zoom.

In the far distance to the west of the station we could see another train, but with the RAF air base on one side and a busy golf course on the other, we had no chance of getting up close.

We headed back to Bangor to photograph the rare sight of two Virgin HSTs in the station, this being the terminus for the day. 43 198 is at platform 1, having just arrived on time with the 09:05 service from Euston.

43 196 is stabled in the down fast - it brought the 18:05 from Euston last night.

At the east end of the station we can see 43 094 in the down fast and 43 065 in platform 1

The earlier arrival now forms the 14:23 back to the capital
