Ballast trains

The quarry at Penmaenmawr used to see two trains per day, but with the introduction of higher capacity wagons and the virtual quarry concept the frequency dropped off to one or none per day.

37 415 roars past with the 08:36 Holyhead to Birmingham New Street on Thursday 11 March 1999 while 60 070 John Loudon McAdam loads up with ballast. Redundant ballast wagons lie between the trains, showing the contrasting sizes.

Freightliner took over the contract from the 4th June 2001. 66 524 backs the empties into the loading sidings on Tuesday 5th June 2001.
