What a splendid day out

Saturday 15th July 2000

We'd planned on taking the bikes onto Anglesey by train today but when we discovered from rail gen that 37 710 would be on the 08:25 eastbound departure we rapidly rescheduled our day. The LoadHaul liveried loco is seen here arriving at Bangor in plenty of time for a couple of photos, loading our bikes onto the train and procurement of coffee from the buffet - there's no trolley on this service.

This is the train we would have taken to Anglesey - the 08:23 departure with 37 425 Concrete Bob at the business end.

Our train was already busy with bashers. At the first stop, Llanfairfechan, a dozen or so cameras were trained on us from the footbridge. Their owners then scampered down the steps to board the front coach. This train must have generated plenty of extra income for Kodak as well as first North Western.

We alight at Prestatyn and watch the train pull away.
