Our charter tooks us back to Chester and reversed at the North and South junctions before heading off through Helsby and Frodsham and taking the curve round through Runcorn and into Liverpool Lime Street for a photo stop. One of Virgin's diminishing old guard was there to meet us, 87 003 Patriot being at the buffers.

The 37 402 Bont y Bermo that was such a feature of the North Wales Coast line in the nineties has once again been withdrawn from service, while the former bearer of this name has won it back, albeit in unofficial painted form.
