Cambrian Coast Steam
10th August 2007

This year the steam specials were operated by West Coast Railways,
whose more flexible ticketing options made it viable to catch a service
train south to return aboard the loco-hauled train. We drove to
Porthmadog and caught the service train to Dyfi Junction. It was due to
arrive at Machynlleth at the same time as the steam special left, so we
played safe. The second 158 is from Aberystwyth, a couple
alighted and joined us for the ride north.

An added benefit of alighting here was the opportunity for an approach shot at this little photographed location.

76079 approaches Barmouth. It
was a lovely run, the train was lightly loaded and made several stops
for passengers to board and alight, giving the feel of a service train
of the past rather than a charter.

The crossover for the narrow gauge Welsh Highland Railway, which will be used when reconstruction reaches Porthmadog.

We watched 76079 run round and push its stock into the siding, then crossed the road to the Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog) station.
