One damp grey day last year I was returning to Bangor when we were halted briefly
by a signal check. Outside stood a lost station, looking in the gloom like a
scene from an Edgar Allan Poe film adaptation. I just had time to snatch this
photograph from the window before the train moved off but my curiosity was aroused.
I'd glimpsed this station and a similar one further
east on past journeys but now I wanted to know more. I discovered it was Holywell
Junction and this stimulated me into planning an exploration of the eastern
section of the North Wales Coast line, which I undertook with my son Rowan
on May Day Holiday 1999.
