Christine had to go to London on a course so we all trooped off for 1A13,
the 05:43 Holyhead to Euston. This produced 47 784 Condover Hall
in place of the usual HST and I instantly regretted my decision to leave the
tripod behind to cut down on weight. Very steady hands were needed to produce
this photograph of the engine change at Crewe as the diesel made way for EWS
86 261 The Rail Charter Partnership The electric locomotive
took a long time to arrive so we left 25 minutes late, losing a further quarter
of an hour on our way to the capital.

We met my daughter for lunch, visited the Guildhall Gallery and dropped in
at Liverpool Street to see some Anglia class 86 locomotives

The next day's plan was to head up to Reading on the 09:10 Virgin Paddington
to Edinburgh service, 1S52. We dropped lucky on this, 47 287 was dragging
a dead 47 840 and the front coach was dominated by bashers.
