A trio of Doubles

17th September 2000

This was the Sunday of the Welsh Highland Railway's Gala weekend to mark the official opening of their extension to Waunfawr. Despite the grim weather, Christine, Rowan and I cycled to the new terminus, chatted to some of the volunteers and wandered down to the platform for the stirring sight of a pair of Garratts, together almost as long as their five coach train!

It's a narrow gauge railway but these are big locomotives. The pair prepare to run round their train.

The figure on the platform gives you some idea of their size!

The train departs for Caernarfon
