The Lochs and Glens Route
National Cycle Route 7 diary

Second river crossing on the Gaick Pass

The Lochs and Glens Route, Sustrans Route 7, runs from Carlisle to Inverness, a distance of 428 miles. Three of us were on the trip, my wife Christine and I and our son Rowan. We strayed from the official route in places since we wanted to include the Isle of Arran and later on to climb Schiehallion. We also devised a cunning plan to avoid cycling through Glasgow.

Here's how we got on.

Day 1 - By train to Carlisle and on to Cummertrees (41 miles)
Day 2 - Cummertrees to Gatehouse of Fleet (51 miles)
Day 3 - Gatehouse of Fleet to Crosshill (54 miles)
Day 4 - Maybole to Ardrossan (46 miles)
Day 5 - Ardrossan to Lochranza (44 miles)
Day 6 - Lochranza to Ardrossan (17 miles)
Day 7 - Ardrossan to Balloch (37 miles)
Day 8 - Balloch to Killin (61 miles)
Day 9 - Killin to Kinloch Rannoch(34 miles)
Day 10 - The ascent of Schiehallion
Day 11 - Kinloch Rannoch to Insh (43 miles)
Day 12 - Insh to Glen More (14 miles)
Day 13 - A walk and bike ride in Glen More (13 miles)
Day 14 - Cairngorm rain (7 miles)
Day 15 - Glen More to Inverness (45 miles)
