Ireland - December 2005

2 December - Limerick and Ennis

16:11 - 2717/8 crosses the mainline with the 14:30 from Waterford. This unit takes an complex movement which is crossing over onto the Limerick line, reversing, non-stop though station and reversing again before entering the platform. Limerick Junction has the most complicated trackwork in Ireland outside Dublin.

16:22 - 225 calls with the 14:00 Tralee - Dublin before we caught the 16:30 DMU to Limerick

We looked round Limerick and eat a pizza before having a riding the loco-hauled train per week to Ennis. The 17:10 from Dublin which has arrived behind 211. The Small GMs were attached at the other end.

The coach we travelled in was part of the BREL International Train, built in 1986 as the demonstration train of BR loading gauge export vehicles and was sold to Irish Rail from BR in 1995. 6208 is only coach which allowed to work with standard Mark 3s, the rest is used on the Cu Na Mara (the Gaelic for Connemara) train from Dublin to Galway.

We stayed on the train while the loco is running round at Ennis because of an 5 minute turnround which is very tight.

21:15 - 149 + 187 at Limerick after the 20:10 from Ennis
