Settle and Carlisle Tractors

8 April 2004

I rode the Arriva Trains Northern 1M53 09:47 from Leeds to Carlisle with 37411 The Scottish Railway Preservation Society seen the front at Leeds and 37405 on the rear. It called only at Keighley, Skipton, Settle, Kirkby Stephen and Appleby on both ways.

On arrival at Carlisle I saw 47805 heading north with two barrier vans for dragging a Pendolino

I returned on the 1E23 13:33 to Leeds with 37405 on the front ...

... and 37411 The Scottish Railway Preservation Society on the rear.
This train uses bay platforms without run round which are in less demand than through platforms as it as a loco on each end.

I enjoyed my day out on the Settle and Carlisle with 226 miles of 37 haulage on England's most scenic line.
