In the Summer of 1995 ten Class 37/4s were allocated for North Wales Passenger traffic to work an hourly service from Crewe to Bangor with some trains continuing to Holyhead. These are 414, 418, 420, 421, 422, 425, 429 painted in Regional Railways livery, 37408 in Large Logo Blue, and 402/417 in Railfreight triple-grey. On 20 June 1997 allocations were reshuffled so that all ten were in either Regional Railways blue/grey or EWS maroon, 37415, 419, 426 replaced 37402/408/417. The allocation was reduced to eight from the start of Winter Timetable in September 1997 when several trains were extended to Birmingham and the number of trains were cut from 16 to 10 at the expense of local services. These are 414, 415, 418, 419, 420, 421, 422, 426. In September 1998 37401 had replaced 37419. In January 1999 37408 replaced 37414. Summer 1997: 16 trains in each direction (10 to Bangor, 5 to Holyhead and a Crewe - Chester), 2 trains continued to Birmingham with the majority terminating at Crewe using 6 locos Summer 1998: 10 trains in each direction, 8 to Birmingham and 2 to Crewe using 4 locos Summer 2000: 7 trains in each direction, 2 to Birmingham, 2 to Manchester and 3 to Crewe using 3 locos I regret not photographing 408 Loch Rannoch when it was still in large logo or 418, 421, 422 when still in Regional Railways or 417 Highland Region. |
