Virgin had repainted 4 of there Class 47 into heritage liveries in November 2001 and a 5th loco in May 2002 to mark the end of the class on Cross-Country services before being replaced by Voyagers. They all headed west on the 17:25 London - Holyhead from Crewe in the dark and returned on the 09:19 to Crewe the next morning.
